Last night i made my return and performed for the second time at the Earth Cafe in Plymouth, a monthly event held to bring vegans together and share information.
It’s a very popular event, always busy and i was one of the musical acts endeavouring to entertain the latest vegan gathering, and i was pleased with how it went.
I love these events, as time goes by i make more and more friends in the vegan community in the Devon and Cornwall area so it’s a good chance to catch up with them while also singing some songs. A win-win situation for me!
The evening started with some poetry, as i type this the name of the poet escapes me but i enjoyed what he read out. Unfortunately there was one rather loud (and opinionated) woman who would lower her voice and give respect to those on stage. Luckly i had a guitar so could drown her out easier, i may be a fairly quiet chap but when on stage i am happy to sing loudly! – as usual the setlist is up on rossmayhew.co.uk
I like to mix it up a bit and not just play exclusively vegan songs, it can feel a little like preaching to the choir otherwise. Just being a room with like-minded people is a great thing. The rather persistent rain couldn’t damped the positivity.
One of the organisers of Earth Cafe, a good friend, was kind enough to let me crash at his house after the event due to the lack of trains from Plymouth at that time of night. There was a good bit of chilled vegan chat in to the small hours but with the dawn i fled to volunteer at a stall in Torquay.
It was the first time i’d met members of Devon Animal Save and they were all lovely people and it makes me want to step out more and do more for the animals. I love singing my songs, it’s something i will never give up but getting involved and connecting with people is amazing too and i think it’s time i did a bit more activism.
Next weekend it’s back to the studio to sing for freedom! If you fancy coming along and adding your voice to my song you are most welcome. More information can be found here.
Until next time!
